RESOURCES

RESOURCES

I have used a variety of sources in addition to books.  I have spent a fair amount of time sifting through a variety of web sites looking tracking down bits of history.  Some of my most used are:

  • The deed records of land sales in Hancock County contain a wealth of information and can be found here - HANCOCK COUNTY DEEDS
  • The Bar Harbor Library has a searchable archive of local newspapers found here - FRIENDS OF ISLAND HISTORY NEWSPAPERS
  • The NY Times archive is also a great resource - NYT Archive
  • One of my great disappointments several years ago was when GOOGLE discontinued its support of what had been a fabulous newspaper archive.  Instead, I now use the commercial newspapers.com archive - NEWSPAPERS.COM
  • Of course lots of reliance on GOOGLE and WIKIPEDIA
Unfortunately, I have not had enough time to spend going through the archives of our local SULLIVAN - SORRENTO HISTORICAL SOCIETY
If you are reading this and have never contributed - PLEASE - think about joining to support this important local organization!
